The Story

After the Red-Blue Chair, the Berlin Chair is one of Gerrit Rietveld’s most iconic works. He designed the Berlin Chair for the 1923 ‘Juryfreie Kunstschau’ in Berlin. As only the original scale model of the chair survives, it is unclear whether the chair was actually exhibited as a furniture piece at the time. In 1960, Rietveld designed two new versions of the chair for the boardroom of the National Academy of Visual Arts in Amsterdam. A cushion was added to the second version and the chairman’s chair had a higher back.

Rietveld's Berlin Chair is made of solid oak or beech panels, which are varnished in such a way that the structure of the wood remains visible.

Made in The Netherlands by Spectrum Design.

Dimensions: H 39 1/2"  D 28 1/4"  W 22 1/2"  Seat height 17 3/4"  Arm height 27 1/2"

Materials: Lacquered solid oak.  Beechwood panels. Authentic "Rietveld Original" provided with a chip and product number.
